Two things changed this year, and honestly, the smaller of the two is the name.

Cutting straight to the point, A Video Maker LLC is now Cutpoint Studio. We're the same company and the same person answering your email and working on your projects. So if you've worked with us before, nothing about that relationship will change.

But here's the part that might actually affect you: we're a post-production studio now. Video editing, color correction, sound design, motion graphics, and finishing is what we're going to focus solely on going forward. We've spent years offering end-to-end production and we're good at it, but good at it isn't the same as best at it. Our strength has always lived in the edit suite, so that's where we're planting our flag. We'll still take production work for ourexisting clients and on a case-by-case basis, but if you're coming to us new, come to us with footage you've shot, or shot by a freelancer.

The problem with "A Video Maker"

I've jumped through "production names" since 2006 and A Video Maker was one that I kind of settled on that did its job. It was broad enough to cover everything we took on, from corporate shoots to reality television. And generic was fine when the market was smaller and clients found us through referrals instead of search results.

But as time has gone on, I've learned that generic has a cost.

The name said nothing about our philosophy or our point of view. It described us as a commodity. Meaning we were no different on the surface than anyone with a camera and a laptop.

It didn't tell people how I spent eight seasons as Executive Producer and Director on Graveyard Carz for MotorTrend and Discovery, building narratives out of hours of disconnected footage and holding hundreds of thousands of viewers week after week.

And "A Video Maker" flattened that into two forgettable words.

A name is a first impression that never stops repeating

It's in every email signature and every search result and it either reinforces what you stand for or quietly works against it.

When someone searched for a post-production partner and landed on A Video Maker LLC, they had no reason to pause, no signal that we think about story differently, and no hint that we bring an editor's discipline to the whole process.

And unfortunately, I've learned the hard way that In a market this crowded, a forgettable name is an expensive liability. It makes you explain yourself before you can start a real conversation.

We got tired of explaining ourself.

What "Cutpoint" means

It didn't take long to come up with an actual name when we looked back at the 20 years of work we've done.

In editing, a cut point is the exact frame where one shot ends and the next begins, usually deleting a portion of unnecessary information. It's the most consequential decision an editor makes. Make a cut too early and you could lose context. Make a cut too late and you could lose momentum. That right cut point can be hard to find, and it usually only presents itself accurately with experience. And once you find it, it can serve the story so well that nobody notices the seam.

That seemed so fitting to what we're all about. Every frame earns its place. Every decision answers one question: does this serve the story? We don't pad for time and we certainly don't allow drift. We cut the story to what matters and leave the rest.

Coming from broadcast, I know most production companies think like directors. They believe having he camera perform a dramatic move will provide ROI. I've been there. But time and time again, I find that thinking like an editor shapes everything, and influences what is done with your footage. And sometimes that means cutting that dramatic move as it's a distraction from the story.

What the change commits us to

Obviously, a rebrand done right isn't cosmetic. Instead, It's a promise you can hold us to.

Post-production is the whole focus. Not a service line among many. It's what we do, which means it's what we get better at every single week.

An editorial mindset on every frame. When footage hits our timeline we don't assemble it, we interrogate it. Where's the structure? What's the actual story in this material?

Flat-rate pricing, no surprises. We've always worked this way and the new name makes it official. You know the cost before we start cutting.

Reality-television instincts applied to brand work. Finding narrative in unscripted chaos translates directly to your projects. We know how to build tension and keep people watching.

Results over runtime. A three-minute video that drives action beats a ten-minute video that loses the room at two. We measure by audience's emotional response, not deliverable length.

One thing we're adding

Some of the best post-production decisions get made before anyone hits record. What happens in pre-production determines what's even possible in the edit, and most teams learn that the hard way.

Sometime in the near future, we'll be building a course to help producers and shooters think like editors from day one. So stay tuned for that soon.

Who this is for

We continue to love to work with businesses, organizations, and creators who believe two things:

  1. That authenticity beats polish. Real stories told with skill outperform overproduced corporate content every time. Audiences can smell the difference and they punish it with the back button.
  2. And that video should do something. Move someone to buy, donate, sign up, or change their mind. If your current content looks fine but isn't driving results, the problem usually isn't production value. It's story.

Same company, sharper identity

So, hence forth, Cutpoint Studio is a DBA of A Video Maker LLC, founded in 2021. The team hasn't changed. Our obsession with narrative craft hasn't changed. What has changed is the signal we send and the work we're pointed at.

With all that said, If you've got footage, or a team that shoots it, we're the partner who turns it into something worth watching. Let's talk.
